Hi. Monty the Moose here, official mascot of the Vermont Children’s Hospital at Fletcher Allen—and proud of it! I last blogged in August of 2011 and I thought it would be time to give you an update on what I’ve been up to and what I’ll be doing in the weeks ahead.
The past winter and early spring have kept me busy out in the community and in the hallways of our hospital, meeting and greeting so many people who want to say hi and give me a hug. I loved the Winter Carnivals I attended, the various holiday celebrations I got to be a part of, and of course, nothing beats the Big Change Round-up for reminding me of just how much our children’s hospital means to so many in our community.
In the weeks ahead, I will continue to have a very busy schedule (which I love), but I’d love it even more if you join me in some of the upcoming events I’ve been invited to attend.
Everyone loves a Parade…
… At least I know I do! I’m sure you have been to parades but have you ever been in one? It is more fun than you can imagine to wave to so many families along the route— if you haven’t experienced being in a parade, please join us at three upcoming ones:
- Vermont Children’s Hospital will have a group of walkers, the FACT ambulance and me J in the Burlington Kid’s Day parade on Saturday May 12th.
- We will all also be in the Essex Memorial Day parade on Saturday May 26th. You can walk with us in the parades or cheer us on from the sidelines, and all are welcome!
- We will also be in the Colchester July 4th parade, but more to come on that one later.
How do you sign up? Just email vermontchildrenshospital@vtmednet.org and tell us you or other friends or family members would like to join us walking in any of the parades so we can let you know when and where to meet us on the day of the parade. We will provide a free VT Children’s Hospital t-shirt to the first 25 people to sign up to walk with us in the parades.
Hoopapalooza!
There are other events on my calendar as well in the weeks ahead. I will be at the Burlington Rotary Hoopapalooza on May 5th , a giant hula-hooping event. I’ve never been to a Hoopapalooza….I’m wondering what it is like. Do you think I will have to Hula Hoop? Not sure I can do that, but always willing to try. Wave to me, or come give me a high-five when you see me there.
Big Truck Day
I have also been invited back to Big Truck Day which I attended last spring in Hinesburg. This is a lot of fun, we get to see and sit in the big, big trucks….and adults and children (and mooses) love this event. This is at the Hinesburg Nursery School on Saturday May 19th 10:00 am -1:00 pm. Hope to see you there! Look for me and come over to say ‘Hi’.
Relay for Life
Finally on the evening of June 22nd, I will be at the opening ceremony for the Chittenden County Relay for Life at the Champlain Valley Expo Center. Let me know if you want me to join in with your group for a picture, I’m very photogenic.
You can sign up for any of these events and show your spirit for our children’s hospital (and for me) by emailing me at vermontchildrenshospital@vtmednet.org .
As you can see, I’m going to be very busy but I love getting out and seeing all of you. Please do join me whenever you can. It’s not the same without you there and shows our community how proud and happy we are to be a part of our Vermont Children’s Hospital!
That’s it for now, but I’ll write again soon to let you know where I will be next. Best wishes for a great spring season!
