Fletcher Allen Facts
Fletcher Allen in alliance with the University of Vermont College of Medicine serves as Vermont’s academic medical center, one of approximately 130 centers in the country. Academic medical centers are medical schools, nursing and allied health schools, and teaching hospitals that link together research, medical education training and patient care.
Fletcher Allen was founded in 1995, through the integration of Fanny Allen Hospital, Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, and University Health Center. The organization provides care at more than 30 patient care sites and 100 outreach clinics and programs in Vermont and upstate New York.
During fiscal year 2009, Fletcher Allen served a population of one million:
- 562 licensed beds (excluding nursery)(419 staffed)
- 2,166 births
- 48,791 inpatient and outpatient admissions
- 58,805 emergency department visits
- 1,117,689 physician encounters
- 2.4 million lab tests
- 1.35 million meals served
